March 2025 LOCSD ENEWS Online

Los Osos Community Town Hall Meeting - Regarding Sunnyside School Site
Los Osos Community Town Hall Meeting, Saturday, March 22nd, 3pm-5pm, Sunnyside School Auditorium.

The San Luis Coastal Unified School District is selling the Sunnyside School site as surplus property. The Los Osos CSD (LOCSD) and the county are considering acquiring the site to enhance community parks and services in Los Osos. The LOCSD, along with the Los Osos Community Advisory Board (LOCAC), have been working with active recreational groups for the past one and a half years to determine the needs for active recreation in Los Osos.

The 12-acre Sunnyside School site could host many different community amenities - playing fields and other active recreation, open space, as well as buildings to meet various community needs.  With the SLCUSD interested in selling the property, it is time for the community to express its interest.

The Wallace Group will present some concept plans and costs for the property, ranging from minimal improvements to more elaborate recreational and community amenities.

Your participation is critical!

Facilitated by:

  • Los Osos Community Service District, LOCSD
  • Supervisor Bruce Gibson
  • Los Osos Community Advisory Council, LOCAC
  • The Wallace Group

A Community Survey will be available soon, and th District will send out another email once it is available!

Water Sources in Los Osos

The Los Osos Community Services District water system uses six source wells.  Water delivered to the LOCSD customers is groundwater that originates from the Los Osos Valley Basin.  The groundwater basin is a collection of local drainage basins, streams, creeks, and natural percolation from rain, agriculture, and domestic use.  Water is cleaned through a natural filtration process as it trickles down through the ground.  During this process, water may also pick up contaminants found in the soil, either naturally occurring minerals or substances resulting from animals or human activity.  Groundwater is normally very clean and is simply disinfected to help minimize the chance of any viral and bacterial contamination.

Each well is equipped with on-line apparatus for operation and monitoring purposes.  An alarm system is integrated in the monitoring process to notify operators if there is a problem at any well site or District facility.  Two District wells have additional filtration equipment designed to remove naturally occurring iron and manganese found in these wells to aesthetically acceptable levels.

The Utilities Department operators are responsible for treatment of the six groundwater supply wells.  Crews are also responsible for water quality monitoring, sampling, distribution system repair/maintenance, meter reading and regulatory reporting compliance. The delivery of water to the District’s water customers is conveyed through a network of over 27 miles of water main lines, utilizing three water storage tanks, six groundwater wells connected through approximately 2,780 water service lines and meters serving residences and businesses. Included in the domestic water service infrastructure are 167 fire hydrants with some 558 valves that require periodic maintenance and inspection. These services provided by Utilities Department personnel not only assure delivery of clean, safe and potable drinking water, but also provide the water essential for fire fighting.

We have available our 2024 Consumer Confidence Report.  If you would like one mailed to you, please contact Margaret Falkner at 805-528-9376.
